Week 63: Alma

Nov 20, 2023

Hey everyone! This week has been pretty good. I have felt especially grateful this week for my mission and all the many blessings I have received over this past year.

My brotha, Elder Winegar, ended his mission this past week and went back to the good old U S of A. I went to his final testimony meeting and definitely didn't cry... I'm gonna miss him so much. We were in the same zones my entire mission and he was such a great example for me. Seeing him end though made me realize how little time I actually have left on my mission, and it made me so grateful for everything I have experienced so far.

At his testimony meeting there were a lot of members that came to join from North Stake, which was my first area. It made me so happy to see all of them. The time has gone by so fast.

As a mission, we have been reading through the Book of Mormon together in order to finish by Christmas. I fell behind a little bit a couple of weeks ago, but wanted to catch back up so I have been reading a ton this week which has been so great. I don't think I've ever studied the scriptures this intently in my life and I love it. Right now, we are reading in Alma and it has some of my favorite scriptures. In Alma 39-42, Alma commands his son Corianton to repent. I love how even though Corianton had sinned so much, Alma knew he could still repent and receive forgiveness through his trust and service to the Lord. The last verse in Alma's words to Corianton are chapter 42:31 which says, "And now, O my son, ye are called of God to preach the word unto this people. And now, my son, go thy way, declare the word with truth and soberness, that thou mayest bring souls unto repentance, that the great plan of mercy may have claim upon them. And may God grant unto you even according to my words. Amen."

We all have sin. We all make mistakes. But God has called us to serve Him and to help others to come unto Christ. He "is merciful unto all who believe on His name." Go to Him. Trust in Him.

Love,
Elder Mendenhall
